觉得

jué de v.

to think; to feel

Subjective bodily feelings or personal opinions.

觉得 covers physical sensations (feeling cold or warm) and personal opinions (thinking something is delicious). It is your personal radar.

Common Usage & Traps

  • 觉得冷 (juéde lěng) — feel cold
  • 觉得很好吃 (juéde hěn hǎochī) — find it delicious
  • 我觉着是冷(初学者发音或混淆) 我觉得冷

In standard HSK Mandarin, stick to juéde.

What is the difference between 觉得 (juéde) and 想 (xiǎng)?

觉得 is a felt physical sensation or opinion; 想 is an active craving or desire.

If you are shivering in the rain, you say: "我觉得冷" (I feel cold). If you crave a hot bowl of soup to warm up, you say: "我想吃热面条" (I want to eat hot noodles). One is how your body feels, the other is what you crave.
