Common Usage & Traps

  • 问题 (wèntí) — question / problem / issue
  • 问问题 (wèn wèntí) — to ask a question
  • 没问题 (méi wèntí) — no problem / sure / it's fine
  • 做题 (zuò tí) — to do exercises / work through test items
  • 这个题 (zhège tí) — this question / this item (on a page)

题 is a test item or topic sitting on a page. The thing you actually ask out loud is a 问题.

You do 题, like exercises or exam items. 做问题 sounds like you are manufacturing a problem.

没问题 is a fixed phrase. 不问题 is not a thing anyone says.

Can I just say 题 to mean 'question'?

No — 题 is a test item or topic; 问题 is the question or issue.

题 is the thing printed on a page: a math problem, an exam item, a topic. 问题 is the thing you ask or discuss, like a question or an issue. Raise your hand in class and you have a 问题; stare down at a worksheet and that's a 题. Think of 题 as the stuff on paper, 问题 as the stuff in the air.

Asking a teacher
Doing homework
Exam item

Does 没问题 mean 'you're welcome'?

No — it means 'sure' or 'no problem' when agreeing to a request.

没问题 is a green light: yes, I can do it; yes, that works. It answers a favor, a request, or a plan. It does not usually answer 谢谢. For thanks, use 没事 or 不客气. Saying 没问题 after 谢谢 sounds like you're still agreeing to do something, not waving off gratitude.
DimensionNaturalAvoid
Agreeing to a favor
Answering thanks
Confirming a plan
